Ever since its establishment in 1990, Constanta Maritime University has made a commitment to permanently update its educational offer, to meet the changing needs of global industry. Today, our university stands out as one of the Romanian higher education institutions most closely connected to the economic reality.
Constanta Maritime University (CMU) is a preeminent higher education institution in the maritime field. The university was established in 1990 and has been accredited by the Ministry of National Education (MEN), the Romanian Agency for Quality Assurance in Higher Education (ARACIS) and by the Romanian Naval Authority.
CMU has also been audited by international agencies, such as Bureau Veritas Quality International and the European Maritime Safety Agency (EMSA).
From 2015, the Japan Maritime Center has recognized CMU as a certified institution under the System of Recognition for MET Institutions.

Sequel to this recognition, CMU graduates may join the Japanese fleet without undergoing additional tests and acknowledgements.
The university has completed the accreditation process of its Dynamic Positioning Training Center in cooperation with the Nautical Institute. The accreditation was obtained since September 2015. As such, CMU also provides DP training courses to interested parties in the offshore industries.
CMU’s study programs are targeted at the international maritime industry, as they are mean to train highly skilled personnel, able to face the fierce competition, which defines this over-regulated field. Our graduates are employed onboard merchant vessels, as part of multicultural crews.
Loyal to its international vocation, Constanta Maritime University has concluded over 20 partnerships with worldwide maritime institutions, which were meant to explore and promote cooperation in the fields of teaching and research, to foster staff exchanges and continuing education in areas of mutual interest, and to broaden the experience of the faculties and students of each party, by providing them with opportunities for increased cultural understanding.
CMU’s membership in reputable international organizations focuses on improving the theoretical and practical training of future seagoing personnel, by sharing the view that effective education and training in the maritime sector derives from scientific and academic rigor and the development of a clear link between practical skills, management techniques and a focus on quality.
In the local community, CMU represents a source of highly qualified labour force and a capable partner for performing activities related to scientific research or technical and economic analyses.
