€100,000 Funding for Local Authorities Aiming to Protect Lakes through Sustainable Solutions

The European project ProCleanLakes has extended the deadline for its open call, which aims to select 3 to 5 associated regions. Each selected region will receive up to €100,000 in the form of a grant to develop roadmaps for the implementation of nature-based solutions for the remediation and protection of natural lakes.

Submission period
The call is open until 8 April 2025, 17:00 CET (Brussels time).
Selected projects are expected to start between 1 October 2025 and 31 January 2026, and run until September 2027.

Who can apply
Regions that have access to a natural lake facing similar challenges to those at the ProCleanLakes demonstration sites (e.g. pollution, declining biodiversity, etc.), and that are able to adopt and replicate the solutions developed in the project.

Total available funding
€300,000 to be distributed among 3–5 selected regions (up to €100,000 per region).

  • Replication potential of the proposed solutions
  • Pollution level and water quality indicators
  • Pollution sources and available sampling data
  • Environmental impact and urgency
  • Economic feasibility
  • Social and stakeholder engagement
  • Site readiness and implementation capacity
