The European ELIAS project – European Lighthouse of AI for Sustainability, funded through Horizon Europe, is launching its first open call targeting startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) developing artificial intelligence (AI)-based solutions for sustainability-related challenges.
What types of projects can be funded
The call targets AI applications in the following categories: “Methodology”, “Software/Tools” and “Benchmarks” – including, but not limited to, those related to the ELIAS use cases.

- AI for Monitoring the Virtual Infrastructure
- Responsible, User-centric Advertising
- Mitigating Misinformed Migrant Perception in the EU
- AI for Forecasting of Vegetation State
- Materials Discovery
- Personalized Co-Piloting Systems
Eligibility
- Only SMEs and startups officially registered in an EU Member State or a Horizon Europe Associated Country are eligible to apply
- Projects must reach at least TRL 5 (technology validated in an industrial environment)
- Entities affiliated with the ELIAS consortium are not eligible to apply
Funding and duration
- Funding: up to €60,000 per project, as a 100% lump sum grant
- Project duration: up to 6 months
- Payment is made in full after the validation of the final report, which must include: a project summary, a demonstration video, and the committed deliverables
Application deadline: 30 April 2025
