Funding Opportunity for SMEs: AI and Robotics for Industrial Defect Detection

MAGICIAN is launching Open Call 1, a funding opportunity for SMEs and startups across Europe developing innovative solutions for defect detection and repair in industry, leveraging robotics and artificial intelligence. The program supports projects integrating new functionalities into its robotic platform, with a focus on perception technologies and human-robot collaboration.

Eligible Project Types

MAGICIAN funds projects in two main areas:

  • F1 – Perception Technologies: AI-based solutions for defect detection, advanced sensors, and innovative data annotation methods
  • F2 – Human-Robot Collaboration: Intuitive interfaces, augmented reality, voice interaction, and mobile robotic platforms

All funded solutions must be fully compatible with the MAGICIAN robotic platform and integrate with:

  • Robotic Systems: Use of Sensing Robot (SR) and Cleaning Robot (CR), equipped with Doosan H2515 robotic arms
  • Software Environment: Compatibility with Linux 22.04, ROS2 Humble, TensorFlow 2.18.0+, and Python 3.10+
  • AI Models and Data Processing: Integration with MAGICIAN’s real-time processing systems and use of existing industrial datasets
  • Testing and Validation: Access to MAGICIAN’s testing facilities for optimization and verification

Who Can Apply?

  • Startups and SMEs from the EU or Horizon Europe-associated countries
  • Single AS projects: Companies able to independently integrate their solution into the MAGICIAN system
  • Twin AS projects: Two companies collaborating to develop a complementary solution

Note: Large companies and entities outside Europe are not eligible for funding.

Project Duration and Funding Conditions

  • Project duration: 12 months
  • Maximum budget per project: €200,000
  • Maximum number of funded projects: 5
  • Funding rate:
    • 100% for startups
    • 70% for SMEs
  • Payments:
    • 50% pre-financing upon contract signing
    • 35% after approval of the interim report
    • 15% upon project completion
